Cam Zink has competed in every Rampage since 2003, and his knack for building the gnarliest lines down the rugged cliffs outside of Virgin, Utah, makes him a perennial podium threat. This year, he set aside slopestyle in order to focus solely on preparing for the pinnacle in freeride competition, which takes place on Friday.

Earlier this summer, Ryan Cleek, Bike contributor and director of the Zink documentary “Reach for the Sky,” spent a few days with Zink at his home in Reno, Nevada, to see how this freeride legend balances life’s daily responsibilities—being a father to two young kids, a husband and running two businesses—with the mental and physical training that Rampage demands.
