"Those familiar with the unique subculture of single speeding know the nomadic Single Speed World Championships is an annual event not to be missed," said Todd Sadow, Epic Rides president. "We are proud to take part in sending some of America's most talented single speeders to such a fine celebration among the world's cycling community."
The Whiskey Off Road event features multiple divisions for amateur mountain bikers—and single speeders—at distances of 15, 25 and 50 miles. With a challenging course, festival atmosphere and historically good organization, the Whiskey typically attracts a large number of riders, supporters and spectators. It also offers a $20,000 cash purse for pro riders, with equal payouts for men and women.
Amateur registration opened earlier this month and is limited to 1,400 riders. Officials expect another sell out, so interested participants are encouraged to register ASAP. Online and snail-mail registration forms can be found at http://epicrides.com/wor/wor.htm.
All participants who register on or before March 26 will receive a goodie bag valued at a minimum of $75, including T-shirt, water bottle, poster and publication plus assorted samples from event sponsors. Registration costs $85, plus a $10 minimum donation to the Yavapai County Food Bank. Riders who finish within allotted times—not an easy task—will earn custom finisher pint glasses, and those fast enough to finish top-five will receive a custom Whiskey Off Road flask (or a custom water bottle, for the juniors on the podium).
