Today Trek announced the formation of its new Factory Racing Downhill team, consisting of three elite racers and one junior racer. The Athertons moved on from Trek earlier this fall, leaving an opening that this new team fills. There’s no official word on who the new riders are, but Trek expects to make an announcement in the coming weeks. For now, we’ll just have to guess at who’s in these team pictures.
The new downhill team will be under the ownership of Trek, as with all the Trek Factory Racing teams, and will continue the partnership with SRAM/Rockshox that we’ve seen in past years. New for this year, however, is a multi-year partnership with 100%, which will provide the team with clothing, eyewear and protection.
The athletes will be using the 100% Aircraft Helmet, a brand-new line of DH-specific protective gear, and 100% optics. The final kit design will be released in February.
“With SRAM, RockShox and 100%, we have the best partners imaginable to make this team a success,” said Sports Marketing Director Tim Vanderjeugd. “These brands are industry leaders and are, like Trek, passionate and committed to innovation. We can't wait for the racing to get going!"
Officially, the word is that the team will compete on the 29er platform of the Session downhill bike. Team bikes will have Bontrager wheels and tires, with SRAM components and RockShox BoXXer forks.
