Trail Building- An Under-Appreciated Art Form

Watch one Scottish trail builder pour his heart into his trails.

Without people building trails, mountain biking as a sport would cease to exist. While some builders people pour their hearts into building these trails.

Watch Gregor Joliffe tend to museum-quality berms below.

In this video, Gregor shows off his dreamy-looking berms. Joliffe truly sees trail building as an art. One look at his trails and it is impossible to argue that. It is a shame that tires ever have to pass over them and interrupt the perfect surface.

Joliffe uses only the finest dirt to pack in a riding surface above the forest’s natural surface. The result is a band of golden dirt contrasting the darker forest floor. The trails are an all-around beauty. Gergor truly leaves no detail untouched.

After sculpting these berms to perfection, Gregor hops on his mountain bike to test them out.

Gregor Joliffe is a Scottish Trailbuilder. He is the head of machine shaping at Glenlivet Trail System in Scotland.
