As larger-scale industry investment for women’s events like Redbull Formation has dried up in recent years, grassroots events, like the recently hosted She Shreds Legacy, have begun popping up to fill the gap. For the femme freeride community, such events offer a chance to progress, network, bolster portfolios, and, most importantly, have fun in a supportive environment. The Future is Bright is a series dedicated hearing more from the athletes at these grassroots events about their "why:" why they participate and why things like She Shreds Legacy matter.

Maddy Anzellotti was one of several U18s that participated in the event. She had a quiet presence - until she dropped in, that is, at which point she became a stylish force of a personality on two wheels to be reckoned with.

Name, age, current place of residence?

Maddy Anzellotti (she/her), 15, Connecticut.

Did you apply or get invited to She Shreds Legacy?

I was invited to She Shreds!

Why did you attend She Shreds?

I attended She Shreds because I had no doubt, knowing Kaytlyn, it was going to be so sick! It was also such an amazing opportunity to meet and ride with so many new people from all over!

Maddy Anzellotti has zero fear of flying.

What makes She Shreds stand out, to you, from other MTB / freeride events?

What makes She Shreds stand out from other events is the amount of women that came and rode! I’ve never seen an event that had maybe more than fifteen women, but She Shreds almost doubled that. It’s amazing to see how more women are getting involved in the mountain bike world, especially in freeride!

Did you have a proudest moment from the event?

My proudest moment from She Shreds was pulling off the side-by-side drop on Forty with Amy. I was skeptical at first, because you’re getting absolutely launched into a jump into a berm right as you land, but I knew me and Amy could pull it off on our Revel Rascals.

Did you have a most challenging moment from the event?

My most challenging moment from the event was not throwing up all the Red Bulls me and Charlie drank at 10am on the shuttle…

Did you have any goals coming into the event?

My main goal for coming into the event was to just have fun and make the best out of the park, as it was my first time riding Legacy Bike Park!

Maddy Anzellotti just might be the most stylish rider on the mountain.

Do you have any goals moving forward (this season or in future seasons)?

My goals moving forward for this and future seasons are to continue meeting and riding with as many people possible, promote how awesome it is to get women in freeride, to keep improving my riding, and most importantly keep the stoke up!

Any family, friends, or sponsors you want to thank?

I would like to thank all my incredible sponsors for making all of this possible: Revel Bikes, Vans, The Ideal Skate Shop, and Radical Custom!
