The DH wrapped up an action-packed weekend of racing in Monterey, California

Sea Otter Classic has wrapped up for another year. In addition to a trade show full of new tech that BIKE’s dutiful gear editor Cy has covered in great detail, the event also hosted races from cross country to downhill.

On April 21st, some of the best racers in the World Competed in the iconic Sea Otter Downhill. Jill Kintner and Cody Kelly won the women’s and men’s races respectively.

Sea Otter always brings out some of the fastest racers in the world. This is in part because many brands bring their athletes to the festival to give fans of the sport face time and promote their products.

The terrain in Monterey, California is distinct from most other downhill races. It's less technical, faster, with more flow and rewards smaller bikes and lots of pumping. For this reason, some of the faster World Cup racers struggled against competition. For example, Bernard Kerr, who was 6th in the World Cup overall in 2023 got 36th.

One notable DNF from the full results was Jake Green. In his run, Jake had a gnarly over-the-bars crash that went viral. from the downhill. Green suffered a broken collarbone in the crash.
