Riders Brave Winter Storm For Mass Start Bike Race In New Mexico
Everyone has weird winter pastimes. Some people do a polar plunge, others just stick to skiing, folks in New Mexico? They race bikes in blizzards.
The "Chile Challenge" is an Angelfire bike park tradition dating back over 10 years, though usually, it doesn't take place during a snowstorm. Take a look at the highlight video from the event below.
Daniel Weinman won his third Chile Challenge which netted him a free season pass to the bike park.
The park usually opens in mid May so the season up there is not far off. Angel Fire is technically the largest bike park in the Rocky Mountains which seems odd considering that it is in the desert southwest.
The desert southwest is deceptively mountainous and makes for ruggedly spectacular mountain biking. If it is not on your list of potential spots to take a trip this spring or fall, it should be.
Along with Angel Fire, the riding in Arizona is top notch too so making a trip out of riding in the general area is certainly a great idea for a bike trip.
