Update: Colin and family have been overwhelmed by the response to the GoFundMe. Since the fundraiser launched, even more generous bike friends reached out to donate items to the raffle, which has now been extended by a week. You’ll now have until January 11 to donate for a chance to win the awesome new prizes below.
Colin Meagher’s name has appeared on Bike’s masthead longer than nearly any other photographer, having been a contributor to the magazine for most of its 25 years. Over two decades of shooting, Meagher’s eye has brought the sport to life through his images of World Cup racing, countless competitions and beautiful Pacific Northwest landscapes baked in golden light. He’s worked behind the scenes for commercial clients like Patagonia and Giro and his work has appeared in mountain bike publications and websites around the world.
Beyond that, he’s been a steadfast mentor to other shooters, a dedicated ambassador to both the craft of photography and purveyor of the soul of mountain biking. Now, Meagher is fighting ALS, a neurodegenerative disease that is robbing him of his life, his livelihood and, eventually, his family's finances. We’ll tell Meagher’s story in much greater depth in the April issue of the magazine, which is out in early March, but what’s important now is that there’s a fundraiser to help Meagher’s family shoulder some of the financial strain of Meagher’s diagnosis.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. There is no cure. Instead, there are mounting medical bills. Meagher and his family need help in offsetting those costs.
Meagher's friends and supporters from the bike and outdoor industry have created a GoFundMe page, with the goal of raising
funds to help with medical costs and many of the other things this disease makes necessary, from home care to devices to help Meagher adjust to daily life as the disease progresses. A percentage of all contributions will also be donated to www.alsa.org to help find a cure.
into the raffle. The winners will be selected at random. Some prize packs are only available to ship to North America. Winners outside of North America will receive the next available prize pack (or pieces of it). All applicable taxes will be the winner's responsibilities.
