For most riders, tacky dirt is the dream. Riding over a predictable surface on which braking is possible is enough for most of us.

Riders seek out sandy steeps to ride because it is a unique style of riding. Since it is too steep to brake, riders are forced to go where the hill wants them to. The loose dirt is just like pow skiing.
