One of the biggest talking points of Shimano’s new XTR M9100 group was that the cassette requires a unique freehub design—and that Shimano was going to be very, very selective about licensees. Until now, there were only two hub manufactures that could produce freehubs compatible with the new XTR: DT Swiss and Shimano itself.
Yesterday, that changed as Industry Nine now is a Shimano-licensed producer of Micro Spline freehub bodies. Industry Nine will offer the option on all of its mountain bike wheelsets and hubs, and also as an aftermarket buy for their Torch series of hubs. This means that existing owners of Torch hubs can simply buy the new freehub body and mount up XTR M9100 with no issues.
“We are happy to build on our relationship with Shimano and flattered to be one of the few brands offered a license for Micro Spline. This partnership allows our brand to continue offering all major axle and drivetrain specs—which riders have come to expect from Industry Nine,” says Jacob McGahey, the Vice President of Industry Nine.
