Rider Gives Lesson On How Not To Whip

Ouch!

One of the most popular tricks on the mountain bike is a whip. It is a simple enough trick, where riders throw their rear wheel and get sideways in the air.

Though it is an approachable trick, sometimes it can go wrong. Watch one rider’s spectacular crash on a whip attempt below.

In this video, Reuben Phoenix Threw the bike sideways for a whip. Unfortunately, his front wheel dropped, causing him to nose case and fly over the bars.

It is not hard to mess up in this way in the air. When throwing the bike sideways, it is very easy to lose fore-aft balance. In “Whip-off” competitions, riders taking their whips to extremes can be very dangerous. See Highlights from the US Open Whip-Off below.

Thankfully, it appears that Reuben is ok.

Reuben Phoenix is a British rider. On his Instagram profile, you can find him pushing his enduro and downhill bikes to the limit.
