New $450 E-Bike Tax Credit Debuts In Colorado
Electric bikes are great for transportation, especially in areas with high congestion. Even better, they are good for the environment.
Because of this, the Colorado Department of Energy has offered a $450 tax credit on any electric bike purchase. Read more about the program here.
Electric Commuter Bike
Electric bike Tax Credits are a novel way to incentivize people to use electric bikes instead of cars. Additionally, some power companies offer credits to buy e-bikes as well. Though this could be cynically viewed as investing in a long-term customer, it is still a nice bump to help sway riders toward electric bikes.
Though this is envisioned for commuting, the credit makes no such limit. Recreational e-bike users can also take advantage of this program, as long as the e-bike meets UL standards and is in one of the three legal classes of pedal-assisted electric bikes.
Classes of E-bikes
Even with this helpful program, the government could do more to incentivize e-bike use. One thing that governments could do to incentivize e-bike use is to add better bike lanes for riders to feel safe. Though this is a municipal issue rather than a state-level issue, it is still an important factor in whether people decide to reach for their electric bike over their car.
At the end of the day, more people foregoing getting in their car to ride their bikes, electric or otherwise, would be a win-win-win for public health, the environment, and the flow of traffic. It is good to see state governments incentivize this.
