Rider Completes 72,000 Vertical Foot "Olympus Mons" Ride On Mountain Bike

Insanity.

A trend in the cycling world that has grown in recent years is called “Everesting,” where riders will pedal the equivalent elevation gain of the highest mountain in the world.

For some riders, even an Everest is not enough. On March 10, 2024, Ben Hildred completed an Olympus Mons ride on his mountain bike, climbing the 72,000 vertical feet of Mars’ tallest mountain.

Ben Hildred is known for insane rides like these. A few years ago Hildred rose to prominence in the endurance world when he rode 55,000 vertical meters on his mountain bike in a month, all while working full-time.

This time, Hildred climbed the equivalent of two and a half Everests in three days, all in one go. It truly boggles the mind.

See his Strava recording of the ride below.

Ben Hidred is a british rider living in Queenstown, New Zealand. He is known for his epic rides. For this gargantuan effort, he chose his Santa Cruz Tallboy, a bike with enough travel to drop into a proper trail on day two and a half of straight pedaling but still pedal efficiently.

We at BIKE extend huge props to Ben for this unfathomable effort. We can’t wait to see what he is up to next.
