MRP Gets into Rear Suspension

Acquisition of Elka Suspension broadens MRP's suspension offerings

Mountain Racing Products, parent company of the MRP, White Brothers, Kreitler, Power Grips, and Tamer product lines, announced at Eurobike that they’d purchased the bicycle division business of Quebec-based Elka Suspension. As part of the agreement, the company will take over production of Elka Suspension's bicycle Stage 5 rear shocks under the MRP brand. The coil-sprung rear shock features adjustable high and low-speed compression, rebound, and spring preload and is aimed at the downhill, freeride, and all-mountain markets.

Mountain Racing Products has made big strides of late with greatly improved White Brothers suspension fork offerings and was already in development on an air-sprung rear shock intended for all-mountain/enduro-style bikes. The purchase of Elka Suspension, however, gives MRP immediate entry into the coil-sprung, gravity market.

"The Stage 5 has been a proven performer in the rear shock market since its debut,” explains MRP's product and Marketing Manager Noah Sears. “During the course of our evaluation of it, on our famed local terrain, we've been impressed by its performance, adjustability, and durability. It's a perfect fit to bring it into the MRP product line at the same time that we're incorporating our White Brothers suspension line under the MRP brand. The shock will be a great pairing with our inverted Groove, new 34-millimeter Stage, or revised and refreshed 32mm Loop TR suspension forks."
