“Handpresso” Wild-Hybrid Portable Espresso Machine

Life is too short for crap coffee. There aren’t a whole lot of rules that govern my life, but that one tops my list daily. Maybe it’s because I live in a place where sunlight is scarce for half of the year. Maybe I just enjoy the morning ritual of good, strong coffee that somehow simultaneously kicks you in the head while giving you a nice back rub. Hard to say. All I know is that I start the morning with four shots of the stuff.

I realize I have a problem. And I don’t think I’m kicking it any time soon.

As any addict will tell you, however, travels that take you away from your normal source can be a bitch. I frittered away two months on the road this year and most of it was spent away from decent coffee of any kind. Yes, there were Starbucks aplenty, but I said “decent” coffee.

I was never satisfied… At least, until I was given this incredibly cool tool. I admit, I was dubious at first. A handheld espresso machine? That just sounds patently ludicrous. Quality espresso machines require hot water, incredibly high pressures, brass boilers…the works. How could something that looks like your bike pump deliver decent shots?

Well, I got a degree in Haiku, so I’m not going to pretend to unravel the engineering secrets within the Handpresso, but I will tell you that you can painlessly build the necessary 16 Bar of pressure (there’s a handy gauge on the pump head) to extract a nice shot of espresso with a nice crema atop.

It is good coffee. Damn good coffee and all it takes (if you get the hybrid model) is either fine-ground coffee or some E.S.E. espresso pods and hot water. I have crouched outside my truck at some very shady truck stops and brewed amazing espresso in under a minute with nothing more than the free hot water I got from the scary, tattooed lady at the truck stop cashier.

In short, I no longer have to settle for poor-quality coffee. Ever.
