CatEye Volt 1700 | $240
If you’re going for big days in the saddle and looking to get the most out of your riding, a good light is a must. There’s nothing worse than being stuck on a trail in the dark and trying to make a headlight or phone flashlight lead the way. So with the days getting shorter, your pack might just have to get a little bit heavier. The Volt 1700 weighs 256 grams, can run for two hours on high-mode and is USB rechargeable. Attach it to your handlebar or helmet and get out to train at all hours of the day.
MilkIt Valve System
You might think MilkIt is a weird name, and you’d be right. But that doesn’t change the fact it’s innovating with some often overlooked components on a bike. Namely, valves. The MilkIt Valve System consists of two Presta valves with a one-way rubber flap at the bottom. That means you can remove the core and the tire won’t deflate, which is where the syringe comes in. Slip the tub into the inflated tire, and the sealant will be pushed into the syringe so you can see if you need more. If you do, just fill up the syringe and push it into the coreless-valve, all with the tire inflated. If you’re on a tight training schedule, keeping you sealant dialed is a must.
Lezyne Mega C GPS | $200
In Mario Cart there is a ghost time trial. It allows you to race your best time on any given course, the best time being represented by a ‘ghost.’ Based on how far ahead, or behind, you are from your ghost you can see where you are improving, and what you need to work on. Having a GPS on your bike is kind of like that. You can track where you are fastest and slowest, compare to previous rides and generally get a better sense of how you are improving. And that just scratches the surface. It’s a GPS after all, so navigation, maps and elevation are all included to. And at the end of a ride you can brag to your friends about how much faster you are than them, although they might not be your friends for much longer.
Yaak M-Series | $20
Yep, it’s a belt. It slips through loops in your pants and keeps them from falling down. It also looks good. Just make sure your belt color matches your shoe color. What does this have to do with training? Nothing, except that you’ll need something to hold your pants up as you become more fit. This particular belt is made of carbon-fiber weave for extra strength, the closure is magnetic and it is made right here in the United States. If you buy them in bulk, you can also get the belt buckle engraved with your custom logo, like we did here.
