Hot weather means dry trails and painful climbs. It also means, well, that it’s hot. Hydration packs keep liquids cool for a while, but eventually whatever’s in there will warm with the heat of your overworked, sun-scorched body. Water bottles are even worse, becoming small greenhouses that trap heat like a sauna.

To battle the heat, keep your freezer stocked with bottles of your favorite tasty beverage. For longer rides, your bottle of icy goodness will thaw out in an hour or two and become a slushie, perfect for cooling you down after a long climb. If you’re only out for a quick lap, throw the frozen bottle(without the cap) in the microwave for a couple minutes to soften things up.
