Every hall of famer was once a rookie, every celebrated musician had their debut album and every hero was once a nobody with heroes of their own. Every world champion had a first race, and every freeride legend had their first video part. Generation Next, presented by FiveTen, tells the stories of those riders whose names you'll be hearing for a long time.

Southern Utah has long been a mecca for freeride. Growing up beneath the towering red spires of big-mountain paradise, Ethan Nell watched firsthand as the sports' legends made the pilgrimage to try to make their mark on land that’s played host to so many moments of mountain bike history, from legendary video parts to Red Bull Rampage winning lines. Inspired as much by the gladiators as the infinite colosseums in which they rode, Nell was shaped by the freedom that his home landscape provided.

Riding with his own unique, aggressive, moto-inspired and Utah-honed style, Nell found his way onto Andreu Lacondeguy's dig team for the 2014 edition of Red Bull Rampage. That front-row seat to the glories of the desert made its mark, and Nell immersed himself in freeride. In 2017, at just 20 years old, he dropped into his own Rampage line. Nell rode the run of his life and landed in 3rd place, firmly establishing himself as not only a Utah local, but a Utah legend in his own right.
