The Stevie Smith Bike Park opened in Smith’s home town of Nanaimo, British Columbia, yesterday, serving as a permanent memorial for the Canadian downhill champion, who died last May in a motorcycle accident. With the help of Jordie Lunn, Luke Fulton, Dan Leney, Claudio Caluori and the Velosolutions team, a united community and contributions from around the world, Smith’s legacy will live on through what he loved most—mountain biking. As of now, the park consists of dirt jumps, a return trail and what is likely one of the most exceptional pump tracks in Canada. A skills park is planned to be built later this year.
