If you haven’t ever heard of the Single Speed World Championships, we apologize for the images you’ll probably encounter while researching the topic on YouTube. A party disguised as a race, or maybe it’s a race disguised as a party, we’re not quite sure, fun and suffering are certainly part of the equation and headed to Bend, Oregon. Starting Wednesday, October 17th, the four day shenanigans consist of rowdy group rides, concerts every night, prime urban single track, and, of course, a 45-mile race through singletrack. The race features strategic shortcuts for those whose costumes keep getting caught in their spokes, or for riders where consumption of adult beverages has impeded their course navigation skills. Costumes are optional but encouraged, drinks are (not) mandatory and fun is required.
