Pearl Izumi has been hard at work revamping its dirt line for the upcoming 2018 Spring/Summer collection and have mapped out a line addressing rider needs ranging from downhill/enduro all the way to groad (not a typo–it is what you think, gravel + road = groad according to Pearl Izumi). We were impressed by the Versa line, designed around versatility. Think shred some singletrack, grab a coffee. Or just grab a coffee, sadly no singletrack. The Versa line is designed to accommodate both.
Versa Performance T and Short
The Versa Performance T blends an on-the-bike position with medium fit and cool black reflective bits to hint again at versatility and potential commuting. The Versa Short gets a water-resistant coating and more of a slightly shorter than trail, mid-length fit. Standout features include zippered pockets, belt loops, and fabric designed for moisture management.
Versa Quilted Hoodie
The Versa Quilted Hoodie offers 133 grams of Primaloft Gold synthetic insulation throughout the torso. Unlike most down (with the exception of newer hydrophobic options) Primaloft, and synthetic insulation in general, tends to still provide some warmth even when truly wet. A dropped tail, draw cord hood, and pockets round out this fetching fall and winter softshell.
A decisive step closer toward sender territory, we move to a couple standouts from the Launch line. The water-resistant Launch short gets a little bit longer 15″ inseam, removable chamois, zippered pockets, and are designed to meld durability with flexibility. They’re also available in a more conservative black and a look at me yellow.
X-Alp Launch Shoe
The X-Alp Launch is designed to be a lightweight (340 grams for size 42) all-day flat pedal shoe equipped with Vibram Megagrip soles. Now, before we get too excited and debate if it’s realistic to have an all-day flat pedal ride, worry not, there’s an SPD design too, shown below in the women’s version. All X-Alp Launch shoes also feature a reinforced toe cap and, as shown, are a lace-up design.
All new Pearl Izumi products will be available early 2018. Pricing is still TBD.
