Since when did cross-country mountain biking become synonymous with spandex, seriousness and shedding every possible gram from your bike? For most riders, it’s simply about going for a shred with your friends—and, of course, going as fast as you can, both down and up. Kona Bikes celebrates this unsung truth with this new video, in which team riders Matt Slaven, Spencer Paxson and his gal Sarah Butsch let it rip on some sweet-ass singletrack in Maui, Hawaii.

But that doesn’t mean the bikes they’re riding aren’t light. These svelte carbon race rigs—the Hei Hei Supreme, Hei Hei Deluxe and King Kahuna—are about as anorexic as they come. In fact, Bike magazine has its hands around the slender toptube of a Hei Hei Deluxe and is testing it for review in our June issue of the magazine. Stay tuned for our no-holds-barred trail feedback.
