Mountain-bike eye candy abounds at the annual festival outside Monterey, California

With its hundreds of booths sprawled around the infield of the Laguna Seca Raceway outside Monterey, California, the Sea Otter Classic is a constant blur of bike bling, and also serves as the unofficial start to the North American race season. Here are a few products that caught the eyes of the Bike team on the first day of the four-day festival:

The $780 DT OPM, or One Piece Magnesium fork weighs only 1,630 grams for a 100-millimeter 29er, before cutting the steerer tube. New seals in the Single Shot II damper reduce friction in the system too, making for better small-bump compliance. Offered in all three wheel sizes, with travels ranging from 100 to 150 millimeters. Continental tires is working on a lower-weight dual-ply formula that will show up soon on the Trail King, Baron and Der Kaiser tires. Apex protection strengthens the rubber and a new casing compound keeps weight down. All three should come in around the mid-900-gram range, except for teh Trail King 2.2, which will weigh sub-900 grams. The new tires aren't shred-ready just yet, but keep an eye out. Prices are expected to stay stable at about $65 each.
