Speculation began swirling last summer that XC racing prodigy Emily Batty would make the leap from her local Trek Toronto team to the global Trek World Racing team. Today, Trek announced she was officially joining the team.
Batty had a breakout season last year, winning the Under 23 title at the Pan Am MTB Championships in Chile, the Sea Otter short track, several Canadian titles and, perhaps most impressively, a tenth place finish at the Offenburg, Germany, World Cup.
Just 22 years old, Batty will compete on a full World Cup schedule this year and will contest for the Under 23 World Championship title when the Worlds come to Mont-Sainte Anne in September.
“I’m so excited to be taking this next step in my racing career,” Batty said in a press release. “I have been so well supported by Trek Store Toronto and without them I wouldn’t have been in the position to make this progression. With Trek World Racing there is a continuation of the equipment I love, and a lot of experience with the other riders and staff and I can’t wait to get out there and continue to improve as an athlete. I’ve gotten to know the Flu Brothers over the past season and they seem like really great guys, very dedicated, and I’m honored to be riding the World Cup weekends with them.”
In addition to Batty, Trek World Racing includes Mathias and Lukas Flueckiger, Justin Leov, Tracy Moseley, Neko Mulally and Andrew Neethling.
