The country’s top mountain bikers went big last weekend at the Sol Vista Nationals in Granby, Colorado, with challenging courses featuring jumps of up to 50 feet on the pro DH track and a mandatory six-foot drop right out of the start gate on the mountain cross course.

Aaron Gwin successfully defended his pro DH title on one of the country’s most exciting tracks, which featured massive jumps and plenty of rocks to keep the racing interesting.

Melissa Buhl also retained her pro DH title, beating Kathy Pruitt by just one tenth of a second.

16 year old Mitch Ropelato from Salt Lake City, Utah is the Men's U.S. National Mountain Bike 4x Champion.

The mountain cross was also a treat for spectators, with a markedly super cross-oriented course and the mandatory six-foot drop straight out of the gate that made good starts critical. The finals were held at night under the lights, which made for a very spectator-friendly event. Even more exciting was the fact that Mitch Ropelato, only 16, took the men’s pro mountain cross title. Jill Kintner won the women’s pro mountain cross title.

The super-D competition was dominated by Aaron Bradford, who finished a full seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Elke Brutsaert won the women’s division, finishing only a second ahead of Jacqueline Harmony.

The XC racers enjoyed the mix of altitude and dust while pedaling their lungs to the max. Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski won by a full six minutes, while Heather Irmiger staged a convincing win in the women’s cross-country event.

In the STXC championships, Adam Craig crowned his weekend achievements with a win, while Georgia Gould took the women’s division.
