The weather cleared and summer finally hit in Whistler, British Columbia, for the Red Bull Joyride slopestyle contest. In a high-flying battle with insane tricks and unfortunate crashes during the first two rounds, the field was whittled down to just eight riders for the super finals. These riders consisted of, in no particular order: Cam McCaul, Tyler McCaul, Anthony Messere, Brandon Semenuk, Greg Watts, Geoff Gulevich, Cam Zink and Kurt Sorge. The super finals saw a few runs with some big tricks, but nobody could pull a clean enough run together to unseat the standing after the first two runs where Messere’s first run score of 92.8 landed him in 3rd place, Zink’s first run score of 94.0 put him in second and Semenuk’s insane second run score of 95.4 solidified his win. This allowed Semenuk a victory lap for his super final run where he gave a massive mid-air salute off the final step down.
