News: Avid Elixir 9 and 7 Trail Brakes Announced

Powerful, reasonably lightweight...at a price most can afford. Interesting.

Two of the new products that got their official debut at this year’s Sea Otter were Avid’s new Elixir 9 Trail and Elixir 7 Trail hydraulic disc brakes. Together with X0 Trail (which was introduced last spring), the trio of stoppers form Avid’s “Trail Family”–a line of brakes that provide more power than previous Avid offerings (aside, of course, from the Code) without adding a ton of grams to your bike in the process.

Each of the Avid Trail brake features a new 4-piston, dual-diameter caliper design. And with weights dipping below 350 grams, none of these three models will make a pig of your bike. Expect to find the brakes at your local bike shop this June.

“We launched this new family of Avid brakes with the X0 Trail model last year,” said Avid product manager James Alberts. “The ideas and technology behind that brake were extremely well received, and we’re excited to be expanding that type of performance into two more Trail models, the Elixir 9 and Elixir 7.”

Avid's new economy-model, four-piston brakes should bring impressive power and modulation down to a more affordable price point.
