Over 230 competitors took on round 3 of the 2014 California Enduro Series on Saturday, August 30 at Northstar California Resort in Truckee. The Livewire Classic Enduro capped off Northstar’s 2014 Enduro Bike Race Series and ran the day before the bike park’s popular Livewire Classic, their downhill race series’ finale.
Athletes gave it their all on a 19-mile course set on a variety of high Sierra terrain. The three timed stages included 2,900 feet of descending and a hefty portion of pedaling. Racers kicked off the day with a lengthy climb up the mountain to stage 1, which took place on Northstar’s premier jump trail, Livewire. Stage 2 was a 5-mile grind with some technical segments segueing into a grueling pedal fest and a lung searing fire road climb to the stage finish. Stage 3 was a fast and flowy trail, offering jumps, big berms and two long, low senders into the finish.
The next stop for the California Enduro Series will take place at Mammoth Mountain as part of the Kamikaze Bike Games (September 18-21), marking the third straight stop in the high Sierra. The series will round out with the Santa Cruz Super Enduro at Soquel Demonstration State Forest (October 10-12).
