Bike Parks BC announces the winners of the 2009 Ultimate Road Trip Contest

Bike Parks BC, a marketing consortium of lift accessed bike parks (Whistler-Blackcomb, Mount Washington, Silver Star, Sun Peaks, and Tourism Fernie) is pleased to announce the grand prize winners of the 2009 Ultimate Road Trip Contest, a one week mountain biking odyssey through British Columbia led by two time world masters downhill champion, Shaums March.  Each winner is entitled to bring a guest to share this incredible experience.

The winners were selected from 20 randomly selected finalists who had to convince the judging panel in a 500 word essay why they should be chosen.  This year’s lucky winners are Andreas Tschanz, age 27 from Biel, Switzerland and David Bennison, age 22 from Cranbrook, BC, Canada.

Andreas Tschanz, an avid mountain biker with some downhill racing experience in Switzerland, was extremely pleased to win especially after having just been laid off from his dream job at DT Swiss.  Tschanz will be bringing his long time friend and “shred buddy”, Lukas Dammbach, also 27.  “WOW! We are so stoked about this win, just unbelievable!!!,” said Tschanz upon hearing the news that he had won.

David Bennison, is an information technology student at the College of the Rockies in Cranbrook, BC.  Bennison says his two main passions in life are downhill mountain biking and photography.  The mountain biking keeps him in shape and is often the subject of his images which he has successfully had published in various mountain biking and adventure magazines.  Bennison will be bringing his good friend Nathen Berry aged 27 along on the trip.  Bennison said he can`t wait to start the trip on August 1st.

Each year Bike Parks BC’s runs the Ultimate Road Trip contest which takes 2 lucky winners and their guests on a 7 day guided trip to bike parks around the province. This year’s trip runs from August 1-8 and features stops at Silver Star, Sun Peaks, and will arrive in Whistler for the start of the Kokanee Crankworx Festival.

The B.C ultimate road trip was given to two guys who already have the luxury of living in pristine mountain bike destinations… the swiss guy actually worked for DT Swiss and this is the winner. What a bunch of &%$#@!!!!! I’ m an avid mountain biker who lives in ONTARIO where our biggest mountain is in Collingwood, a whopping 720 feet. I spend money every year to spend 7 days in Whistler or camp out in Bromont just to have the luxury of being able to go downhill for more than 2 minutes. The fact that every year I’ve applied to this contest only to see some winner who lives in the MOUNTAINS!!! really erks the hell out of me. Why not give someone a chance who lives outside these destinations to really experience the mountains. In saying this I don’t mean me but how bout seeing someone from somewhere nowhere the mountains getting a chance would make me feel a whole lot better than some guy who lives in the mountains and gets to experience that everyday. Thats why I pay to go there.. I cut my teeth outside of Lake Louise learning to ride and even though I love where I am, I think every person with a love of any outdoor sport should experience the west. Hope buddy is “stoked” to ride, (gay…) and I’m still waiting for my Collective DVD that I supposedly won about 5 years ago.
