Five Ten Sam Hill 3

Five Ten Sam Hill 3

These updated Sam Hill signature kicks feature a waterproof insole as well as a stitched and reinforced protective toecap. The outsole is Five Ten’s classic Stealth S1 rubber, which gives plenty of abrasion resistance and grip. Flat pedal only, of course. MSRP: $160 / fiveten.com

Lindarets ReMount MM

Lindarets ReMount MM

Think your dropper-post lever would work better if it were turned sideways? You might just be right. Albuquerque-based Lindarets owner Marc Lindarets knows that cockpit setup is a personal thing, and that many of the current dropper-post levers are designed to work in conjunction with a front shifter. If you’re like most of us here at Bike, though, you probably aren’t running a front mech, which means that there’s a whole bunch of unused real estate under the bar where a lever could go. That’s where this little doohickey comes into play. The ReMount can latch directly onto the bar or onto a SRAM or Shimano brake, and then you can mount your post remote sideways on the little nub. MSRP: $19 – $30 / lindarets.com

Bontrager Thermal Wool Stock

Bontrager Thermal Wool Stock

You can’t trust a person who doesn’t appreciate a new pair of socks. These are 75% merino wool with some nylon and spandex woven in. Arch compression helps keep everything in place and the flat toe seam will make for a comfy toe box. The 5″ cuff is guaranteed to piss off Vernon Felton. MSRP: $20 / bontrager.com

Prestacycle TorqKey T-Handle

Prestacycle TorqKey T-Handle

If you don’t want to splurge on an adjustable torque wrench, these Prestacycle torque keys might be worth looking into. An industrial-grade spring dictates the torque setting and cannot shift out of calibration. Available in 4Nm, 5Nm, 6Nm, 7Nm, 8Nm, 10Nm and 12Nm versions, the TorqKeys hold firm when turning counter clockwise, so they can be also be used as a normal tool. MSRP: $26 with bits / prestacycle.com

Pat’s Backcountry Beverages Pale Rail

Pat's Backcountry Beverages Pale Rail

The directions are simple: Add carbonated water to make a 16-ounce 5.2% pint. That’s right, instead of science food, there’s science booze inside this packet. Of course, unless you have a water source you’ll need to carry as much weight in carbonated water as you’d carry if you just brought beer. Maybe the best option is to just sip straight from the packet. MSRP: $10 for four / patsbcb.com

GoMacro Macrobar

GoMacro Macrobar

The texture and flavor aren’t quite on par with a Clif Bar or some other trail food–think more along the lines of a PowerBar–but we like the fact that these have a short list of organic, soy-free ingredients. All 11 flavors are also gluten free and vegan. MSRP: $2.89 / gomacro.com
