DT Swiss XMM 120 29er – $1350 (w/ carbon crown/steerer)
New for 2012, the XMM 120 29er is DT Swiss’s go-to option for those seeking a highly adjustable, lighweight suspension package. The top-tier XMM 120 29er features a carbon crown and (tapered) steerer which are paired with 32-millimeter stanchions that are housed in magnesium lowers.
DT Swiss has turned to magnesium from carbon for their lightweight fork lowers in the interests of keeping production costs and final MSRP in check.
The top end carbon-crowned model comes in at 1538 grams, while the less costly ($1000) model with an aluminum crown and steerer comes in at 1660 grams.
The fork features DT Swiss’ proven Torsion Box design and comes in both 9- and 15-millimeter QR fitments.
The fork crown sports a nice clean profile, and, oh yeah, did we mention it’s carbon?
The damping system is refreshingly simple to operate on the XMM. It features three settings: Lock, Open and Climb, with the latter reducing the fork’s travel by 30 percent. Compression and rebound are easily adjusted as well. If you look real hard, you might be able to see the adjustment wheels in the photo above.
