The Refugio Mountain Bike Challenge on October 19 begins in Santa Ynez and climbs over the Santa Barbara Mountains, ending at Refugio Beach. The poker-style ride gains 5,000 vertical feet in the Santa Ana Mountains. The group claims values like to nurture and respect one another's abilities; no rider shall be separated from other riders due to physical or mechanical situations; and to be a Samaritan to members and other riders encountered during a ride--so it definitely won't be like "riding with the boys," which is good for all new riders!
