BikeSelkirk Tangiers Heli Biking

story and photography by bruno long

With the recent approval of their summer tenure application by the British Columbia Ministry of Forest, Lands, & Natural Resource Operations, Selkirk-Tangiers and Revelstoke Mountain Resort are launching their heli-biking program, giving visitors access to incredible terrain surrounded by rugged peaks and breathtaking vistas. Photographer Bruno Long was lucky enough to hitch a ride on a recent trip.

We started the day off with a buffet breakfast at the Revelation Lodge, where we all stuffed our faces.
The day began properly, with a buffet breakfast at the Revelation Lodge.
What better way to follow up a breakfast buffet than with a mandatory pre-flight scale session?
You might not be enthusiastic about getting on a scale after a breakfast buffet, but it’s better than plummeting from the sky in an overburdened chopper.

Selkirk Tangiers guide Jeff Honig briefs the group about the day, showing us how to set up the custom-built rack that was made in town by a local welder and rider.

We waited impatiently for our bikes to be dropped off, eager to begin the shred. The last few hundred feet to the summit of Cartier are earned with a thrilling little scramble.

Crossing this bridge and the subsequent climb to a final descent can be draining so close to the end of the ride, but the fast and flowy trail that finishes it all off makes the final push all worth it.

Packing up and and heading back for some apres at the resort. No better way to finish the day than with brews from the Rockford Bar & Grill at the base of the resort.
