Organizers of the European DH Championships have added a new category to the event that will allow riders from any country to compete. The new “open” category was added this week, barely two months before the Championships, which will be held June 12 to 14.
The championships are scheduled one week after the World Cup in Fort William Scotland, and one week before the World Cup in Maribor, Slovenia. Maribor is less than a three-hour drive from Kranjska Gora, site of the Euro DH champs, and organizers hope riders will spend the off-week competing at their event.
“Riders from National Federations, which are not members of European Cycling Union, can now make a stop in Kranjska Gora and take part in European Championships. For fun, practice and glory,” organizers said in a press release.
The open category includes four classes: open junior women, open junior men, open elite women and open elite men. The races will be contested at the Kranjska Gora bike park DH track on Vitranc Mountain, outside the alpine town of Kranjska Gora.
