Complete results aren’t available yet, but Greg Minnaar has qualified fastest for Downhill World Championships this coming Sunday. His time of 4m 53.32secs was good enough for the top spot, despite a few mistakes at the top of the course, and a couple of sit-down’s on the bike in some other pedally sections. You can’t overlook the fact that Gee Atherton is poised to pounce in front of a home town crowd in second place, only 6 hundredths off of Greg’s time.
1st. Greg Minnaar (RSA) – 4m 53.32secs
2nd. Gee Atherton (GBR) – 4m 53.38secs
3rd. Julien Camellini (FRA) – 4m 57.40secs
4th. Mick Hannah (AUS) – 4m 58.18secs
5th. Florent Payet (FRA) – 5m 00.00secs
Greg had this to say about his qualifying run, “I’m really comfortable on this track, and I’m happy to have the fastest time. This was my goal for today and I learned a good deal from that run, and feel quietly confident about Sunday. Starting last really energises me, so I can’t wait for the big one!”.
We can’t wait to find out who wins on Sunday, this is going to be one exciting race. Bike magazine’s editor, Lou Mazzante, and Assistant Photo Editor, Morgan Meredith, will be reporting from Scotland so check Bikemag.com for updates all weekend long.
