Arrived in Vancouver Wednesday en route to Whistler and was greeted by bluebird skies and a clear drive up the Sea to Sky Highway. The denizens of this fair city stayed out of the way of the shuttle bus and I got into town just as a rainbow was breaking over the resort. I barely arrived in time for the start of Deep Summer, a photo contest that pitted six top shooters against each other in a Battle of the Bands style slide-show showdown.
More than 1,000 people poured into the Fairmont Chateau ballroom in Whilstler’s Upper Village to take in the show on four giant screens. Mattias Fredriksson took home top honors—and $6,000 in prize money—beating out stiff competition from photographers Dan Barham, Harookz, John Gibson, Bryan Ralph, Yorick Carroux
Stay tuned for more on Deep Summer and more coverage of Saturday night’s slopestyle finals.
