The Southern Cross is unlike any other cyclocross event in the country—it’s an endurance race. It will be over 50 miles long, and have 7,900 feet of total elevation gain. Southern Cross will be held on January 9, 2010 in the Chattahoochee National Forest in Dahlonega, Georgia.

The course follows a figure eight pattern consisting of grueling climbs and fast sections in the southern tip of the Appalachian Mountains. It will contain a mixture of dirt and paved roads sprinkled with traditional CX course elements, such as run-ups, barriers and natural obstacles to challenge the riders’ bike handling skills, endurance and sanity.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the event and cheer on the racers.

Post-race festivities will include an awards ceremony where the top finishers will be awarded a cash purse and other prizes. A meal will also be provided to the racers along with beer from the Sweetwater and Yazoo brewing companies.
