FIRST THOUGHTS: Marzocchi Roco RC

WHAT: Marzocchi ROCO RC
HOW MUCH: $400
WHERE: www.marzocchi.com

Marzocchi’s new ROCO RC is a high-performance, downhill/freeride shock that features a conventional damping system with a half-inch steel alloy shaft and an alloy casting, and is available in four different travel lengths (the longest being 9.5 inches long, eye to eye, with 3 inches of shaft travel).

Marzocchi designed the ROCO to be tough and plush, but also easy to maintain. The shock can be rebuilt without any special tools, and replacement parts are all compatible with hardware from other manufacturers. The shock has external rebound/ compression adjustments, while high-speed compression and damping are tunable internally.

Mounted on a brand new Rocky Mountain RMX, we rode the ROCO on the airy hucks and stunts of Austria’s Saalbach Hinterglemm ski resort, where Marzhocchi introduced the shock in late summer. The ROCO made little bumps disappear, small drops were sucked up with soft thuds, and on bigger drops there was no bounce, no pogo, just goodness.
